How to Unredact a Word Document
Overview
Once your AI tool has processed a redacted Word document — rewriting, summarizing, or editing it — Conseal can merge the result back with the original sensitive content. The unredaction process replaces placeholders with original values while preserving any edits the AI made to surrounding content.
Step-by-step instructions
Follow these steps to unredact a Word document and merge AI output with original content using Conseal.
- 1
Open the AI-edited document in Conseal
Launch Conseal and open the .docx file returned from your AI tool. Conseal will scan for redaction placeholders in the document.
- 2
Load the redaction map
Conseal automatically pairs the document with its redaction map. If the map is not detected automatically, click 'Load Map' and select the .csmap file from your original redaction session.
- 3
Preview merged document
Conseal shows a preview of the document with original values restored. Review to confirm the AI-edited content is intact and all placeholders have been correctly mapped back.
- 4
Export the final document
Click 'Export'. The restored .docx file contains all AI-generated edits with original sensitive content reinserted. The file is ready for internal use or distribution.
