Frequently asked questions
How local processing keeps your documents private, what Conseal supports, and how plans and billing work.
Privacy and security
Do my documents ever leave my computer?
No. Detection, redaction, and restoration all run locally on your machine. Your documents, their contents, and even their file names are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored by us. Turn off your internet connection and Conseal keeps working.
Does the app track how I use it?
No. Conseal sends no telemetry: no usage analytics, no feature tracking, no behavioral data. The app connects to the internet for exactly three things: installation, signing in, and updates. That is the complete list.
What happens if the app crashes?
Nothing is sent silently. On the next launch, Conseal asks whether you want to send a crash report, and shows you its exact contents before you decide. File names and folder paths are stripped out before the report is even assembled.
Can Conseal see my passphrase?
No. Passphrases are generated and used entirely on your device. We never see or store them, which also means we cannot reset or recover one. If you lose the six words, the locked bundle cannot be restored, so write them down somewhere safe.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. We never have your documents, so they cannot be used for anything, training included.
Using Conseal
What file types does Conseal support?
PDFs, Word documents (DOCX), PowerPoint files (PPTX), and spreadsheets, including scanned PDFs and images where the pages are pictures rather than text.
Does it work on scanned documents?
Yes. Conseal reads scanned pages with built-in OCR, then runs the same detection as on any other document. Crisp, straight scans give the best results. See How to redact scanned documents and images.
What's the difference between Fast and Intelligent mode?
Fast finds common personal info in seconds and is the default. Intelligent reads context to catch information that doesn't follow a pattern and supports custom categories. Both are included in every plan.
What's the difference between Redact and Anonymize?
Redact blacks information out. Anonymize replaces it with consistent labels like [PERSON_1], keeping the document readable, which is ideal for AI workflows. See Redact or anonymize?.
What if the AI misses something?
You stay in control. Select the text with your cursor, or draw a box with the pen tool, classify it, and it becomes a redaction like any other. See How to redact something the AI missed.
Can I undo a redaction later?
Yes. Every redaction saves a restorable bundle. Locked bundles need their six-word passphrase; open bundles can be restored by anyone with the file. See How to restore a redacted document.
Can I use Conseal with ChatGPT or other AI tools?
Yes, that's the Safe AI Workflow: anonymize the document, let any AI tool work on the safe copy, then stitch the real values back into the result on your machine. The AI never sees your actual data. See The Safe AI Workflow.
Does Conseal work offline?
Yes. Once installed and signed in, everything runs locally. You only need a connection to install, sign in, and update.
Plans and billing
How much does Conseal cost?
$29.99 per month with unlimited redactions. Enterprise plans with custom pricing and custom tooling are available; contact admin@sprintfour.com.

No. Every plan includes unlimited redactions.
What platforms does Conseal run on?
Mac and Windows, available from day one.
