How to review what Conseal detected (and fix it)

After a scan, the PII Detected panel shows the full picture at the top: something like 22 items across 38 occurrences. An item is a unique piece of information, like one person's name; an occurrence is each place it appears. Ross Geller appearing four times is one item, four occurrences, and one checkbox controls all four.

Each entry shows:

• The category: PERSON, ORG, EMAIL, DATE, LOC, PHONE, ID, or BANK_ACCOUNT
• A confidence percentage: how sure the detection is. A 100% name is a near-certainty; a 75% organization deserves a glance
• Occurrences and pages: how often it appears and where, so you can jump to the context

Everything is also highlighted in the document itself, color-coded by category. The panel tells you what was found; the highlights show you where and in what context.

Three tools keep a long list manageable:

• Category chips at the top filter the list. Reviewing a medical record and only worried about identifiers? Click ID and work through just those
• Search finds a specific value when you already know what you're looking for
• Group by is available after redaction too, letting you audit the output by label or by page

Every item has a checkbox, and every checkbox is a decision. Checked means hidden, unchecked means it stays. Deselect all and hand-pick, or keep everything selected and remove the exceptions.

A practical pattern for long documents: filter one category at a time, sweep it top to bottom, then move to the next. It turns one overwhelming list into eight short ones.

Three corrections cover nearly every case:

• It grouped things it shouldn't have, or split what belongs together. The merge button combines entries that are really the same thing, so one checkbox rules them all. Entries Conseal grouped on its own show a grouped tag with its confidence, and you can expand them to check its work.
• It flagged something that isn't sensitive. Untick it. Unchecked items are left untouched in the output.

Low-confidence entries deserve your attention most. That 75% is the AI telling you, honestly, that it's less sure. Those are the ones to check in context before trusting the checkbox either way.
